Awakening the Healing Heart
GPIW Anniversary

Ten years ago women religious and spiritual leaders gathered in Geneva, Switzerland, and declared there at the UN their intent to work together for justice and peace in the face of a hungry, hurting, and war-weary world.

The vision of Dena Merriam and the leadership of Rev. Joan Brown Campbell and Sister Joan Chittister energized women of every faith and of no faith around the world.  The movement has taken root in Israel, Palestine, India, Taiwan, Sudan, Japan, Italy, Iraq, Cambodia, Thailand, Egypt, South Korea, Australia, and the United States.  We have been joined in our spirit-filled journey by men who are called with us to address the compelling issues of our day in partnership with women's leadership.

In March we will gather at the United Nations in Nairobi, Kenya, to chart a course for the next ten years.  Our hearts and minds come to these days seeking justice for Mother Earth, who feeds us and gives us life.  As we hear the stories of Africa, the cry from creation compels us to continue and to deepen our commitment to a world waiting for women's energy to embrace the whole of creation in a spirit of love and forgiveness.

We welcome you to this movement marked by justice and mercy for the whole of the created world.
